Lets keep this one separate from the game thread. Maybe we can update others on hotels, released ticket allotments, flight deals and such.

Maybe @BBK will organize a backpage.com themed trip with a guided tour of the porn studios in the Van Nuys area if that flips your trigger

If anyone does wind up with an extra ticket I would def be in the market. Still evaluating (I'd prefer not to spend $1000 on a ticket) but obviously I will be going to the game.

Also, my wife is willing to book rooms for people at a Hilton/Marriott in exchange for cash a say $100 /off night discount for the going rate using her points with her Platinum status (which would get you access to the Club Lounge and probably breakfast).

What does $100 get with your wife, and pic.

Anyone ever go on one of the Alumni Association bowl trips? I'm guessing it's pretty good seats and hotel. I'm considering it.

I used it for the Orange Bowl in 2009 and will be using it for the Rose Bowl. They provide a good service (e.g. chartering you to and from the Huddle, taking you to the game, etc.), plus you're guaranteed a ticket in the Iowa section. Obviously, you also have to pay a premium for it.

So you're saying that in addition to a good travel package, there will be other prominent posters on the trip? Keeps getting better.

We're looking at the Alumni Association as well even though it's going to cost more. It's probably worth it for the convenience.

Hey, I recently went from having to pay for four tickets to two after the grandparents offered to take the kids. The amount I'm paying is a bargain.

3500k? You could probably get a building named after you for that.

We're going on winebrenner and did both of the orange bowls through them and I think they do the alumni trips as well. They do a good job. We had a police escort to the game in 2009.

The alumni tour says air travel is on Southwest or Sun Country. Neither are my cup of tea, but OTOH some of these sketchy eisenhower-era charter planes scare the crap out of me.

Miller keeps talking about supply and demand but those group tour prices were set before anything was announced, yet people are paying these rates

They can charge whatever they want and I hope he sells out.

I'm more laughing that any idiot would pay what he is asking when you can fairly easily book the entire trip for half that amount.

Why is anyone mad at J Miller for trying to make money?

I saw the comments about Miller's trips through Primesports. We've gone to 2 Rose Bowls, one in 2000 and one in 2011. 2000 we went without a package, got to our hotel and they had "lost our reservation" but they had another hotel in another suburb 45 minutes away. Didn't have tickets when we left, I was able to scalp tickets for face about 15 minutes before the game. We had a rental car but were worried about traffic, so we ended up sleeping in our car NYE in order to make the parade New Year's Day.

The last time we went through Primesports. It was pricey but they took care of us. The hotel was located at Universal City, so we could just walk across the parking lot to Universal Studios which is nice as its set up for Christmas. If you have the means, get a rental car. Go to Santa Monica pier, I would assume U of I has a pep rally there (or somewhere). If you have time, recommend Universal Studios, also Warner Brothers tour was fun. Go do the touristy things on Sunset Blvd, etc.

The Prime Sports tour (if you want to go to the parade) will pick you up via charter right outside your hotel. They don't give you tickets until you get on the bus. They have some tailgates that you can participate in, but I didn't think they were worth the money. It was nicer just to be able to walk around the stadium and take everything in. If you're looking for shirts/etc, there'll be a lot of vendors around the stadium as well, some licensed, some not so much.

Edit, holy crap, prices have gone up for Prime Sport considerably since 2011. We didn't pay nearly that much.

That's what my family is doing. Seems like a good play at this point.

If the estimate of 60,000 Hawkeye fans is close to correct, there's your price increase right there.

If you're worried about tickets, I think you could pick up scalpers there. Wisconsin played Stanford in 2000 and Stanford surprisingly do not travel well. I'm going to guess that at least 80% of the Rose Bowl will be Iowa fans.

I don't see how that's gonna happen with how rediculous the prices are but Miller is sure sticking to it

He's trying to justify his prices, which is fine, I guess.

I hope people are smart enough to check prices on their own, though flights will get tight pretty quick. We saved a bunch by deciding to drive and fly out of Kansas City.

Crazy times.
I read if you don't buy a grandstand seat for the parade it's not even worth going and you have to be in those seats by 630 am. Parade starts at eight and lasts two hours. No bathrooms

Which airline are you using? SW had a direct to lax but on the days I wanted one of the legs as sold out and prices got really high. It was less expensive for us to connect through Dallas on American

I remember giving Jon shit for one of the bowl packages he put together, I believe it was 2009 Outback...I was blatantly asking him about why it was worth paying two to three times more through him than just booking on your own. He replied then that you get the Chalk Talk on the flight. I then started asking him if he was on every flight or just one flight. I had a vision of him flying back and forth lugging around a a big chalk board.

I would believe the grandstand comment. Would be hard to see much if you didn't have them. But they have grandstands set up all over the place. We sat right next to the ABC tower. There are plenty of bathrooms in the grandstands (under) and they have vendors set up for food/drinks. With the tour package, they literally drop you off about 2 blocks from your seats, pretty easy and then they take you right to the stadium from there. Game day is a whirl wind.

We're flying Delta. Out the 30th, back the 3rd. I would've liked to make it a little longer, but we already had a 4 day trip to Vegas planned for two weeks later, so this is fine.

It still wasn't cheap. The lowest fare was a flight returning at 12:09am. Fuck. That.

And to hell with that dumbass parade.

I left the house for a couple hours and when I returned, tickets had jumped from $235 to $750 for nosebleeds in the end zones. I'm effed anyway as it's too late to cancel the rental we have booked at the coast.

Wife and I were going to go, but prices exceeded our budget fairly quickly. So instead going to throw one helluva party here. Start on NYE and just continue through NY Day. Really wanted to go, but other factors in life capped our budget. Oh well.

Also, heard some interesting things about Miller and HawkeyeNation over the weekend that I wasn't aware of before. Not going to share it here but it did take me by surprise.

Shit - I may have been late to the party and its well known by people, just the first I'd heard and took me by surprise. Send a PM if you want, I just don't feel comfortable throwing it out on the main board.
