What's the drink of choice this evening, folks?

Think I might start here and see where the night takes me.

My voting location was modestly busy and fairly boring. Based on looks, I'd say 30-40% Trumpists, which for Waterbury is probably pretty good for him.

Maybe I should vote for Romney. It's Romney or Johnson. Or whichever one most says "don't nominate Donald Trump next time"

In the end, that's why I voted for Johnson. A write in might have felt more satisfying, but I want my vote aggregated as part of a "you done fucked up " total.

Mine was busy, but it's our first POTUS cycle in this location, so I have no basis of comparison.

I couldn't possibly guess as to their individual preferences based upon their appearances.

I too went Johnson, mostly in the hope that with a little better traction in four years, should the GOP continue to sluff off into irrelevancy, the libertarians might be able to nominate a more serious candidate who can mount a more serious campaign.

I enjoyed the subtle voter disenfranchisement at my precinct requesting everyone have IDs ready to be scanned. Because it's 'faster' the poll volunteer told us.

I'm content being part of the "drop off from Mitt" group. Someone will look at data and hopefully put forth a complete non-fucktard next time.

Yeah, no ID at my polling place. They ask you to state your address, then you have to sign a registration form which they compare to a copy of your signature they have in their computer.

I did enjoy the look on the election official's face when I inquired about a separate pen for a write in. She said to make sure and check the list to make sure it is valid and I said I already did my research and confirmed the process.

First time in my life I have ever done a write in candidate for any position.

A complete non-fucktard is a lot to ask.

I'm interested to see how sane people try to move the GOP away from being the party of, by and only for pissed off white men and some of their wives (mostly the docile ones). Because that is increasingly the party identity, the party brand, and what the base wants the party to be. And it's an extremely difficult turd to polish. Not even a magnificent bastard Mitt Romney could do it.

I think I should have re-arranged those words.

Maybe non-complete fucktard. I don't know. I'm at work. I'm functioning. I'm relatively sober. That's really all you can ask on a day like this.

Everyone was using an ID to check in at my place. Then they used that to print the voter form. A massive time save compared to the old lady flipping through a spiral bound book.

I'm just pointing out that more aggrieved white males support the GOP than their wives, by a fair though not huge margin. And I would surmise those who do not tend, in the aggregate, to bear a somewhat different personality profile from those who do.

Look, I'm not going to defend my party. We're pretty much past the point of no return there.

But god damn if the writhing self-satisfied smugness of that sentiment isn't everything I hate about modern Jon Stewart liberalism encapsulated in one sentence.

I have to confess. I know who I said I would not vote for, but when I got there I realized there was only one real choice for the wise, manly, and responsible HaLoite.

Good article by David French on this topic.
