I love CJ as much as anyone but he didn't play well last week. A lot of throws just looked weird, off balance, whatever. I probably would too if I knew 52 & 64 were protecting my blindside.

He does look a little different this year; not sure if he is more hurt than led to believe. You look at how agile/mobile he was vs. Minnesota last year with a major groin issue and compare that to the last three games, he looks heavier and a lot slower.

From the video we saw in late summer, he looks like he was taking this whole dad bod thing seriously with the kid on the way.

No excuse for him to not be in better shape.

I don't think he has played poorly at all. He's just not running as much.

We are shockingly!! overreacting to a bad loss and Beathard has played fine, but all of the little stuff overall adds up. Injuries, a player not being in the best shape, etc... aren't bad individually, but at somewhere like Iowa where they all combine at once they don't have the depth to fuck around if everyone isn't at their best.

Agree, it's as if the program can't handle success very well. You'd think Ferentz could have figured it out by now given his experience with Tate and Stanzi and the disaster of team chemistry on those teams after they had great years.

There was a throw last week when he rolled out to his right and just got nothing on a deep ball down the sideline. Those type of throws lead me to believe that it's more of an injury and less the shape that he in. Just a guess but he definitely looks different.

I think it is more injury at this point and Iowa simply coming back down to where their talent level is when those injuries hit, but Ferentz getting all stubborn again doesn't help.

Beathard played well in the first two games but he was horseshit against NDSU. 11 for 22 for 152 yards against a team that was vulnerable to the pass. Yes, there were a couple of drops and his pass protection was not good, but he still has to be better than that. He missed a couple of throws (long one to Kittle, screen to VandeBerg) that he never misses. I don't think he recognized some blitzes he should have either.

He was off from the first snap but looked like he recovered after the pick 6 and then went to shit again.

Maybe Snyder and Bower are our best options. Our recruiting was god awful from '13 - '15 and only marginally better (in terms of rank) in '12.

On the other side of the ball, Iowa has very few scholarship WRs on their roster. I think 6 of our WRs are walk-ons and 6 are Soybeans. That's probably the worst position to fill with walk-ons. C.J. deserves better...

I'm hopeful they just see what he can do in a game and go from there.

This defensive is in pretty dire need of speed and explosiveness wherever it might be found.

I would be shocked if a stubborn KF or Parker replaces Snyder. When is the last time we replaced a safety?
And Iowa needs to get CJ moving in the pocket with more roll outs. He can't just sit back there facing blitz after blitz.

Good point. Once you "win" a starting safety job at Iowa, it takes an act of Congress to change. But only if you're white.

Seems like you see more rotation at other positions.

38-9 Iowa. Running behind Daniels is going to lead to about 250 yards rushing.

Gasser says CJ isn't gonna be moving like he used to for a long time, if ever. He's still serviceable, if he can find a way to not get absolutely slobberknockered every frickin' carry.

If that is the case, I feel even more confident in this being an 8-4 or 7-5 team that plays in the New Era Pinstripe or Foster Farms Bowl.

You mean other than giving up at least $1m and being bored out of his mind as nobody ever throws on him and his team possibly goes 7-5?

    I'm sure he is thrilled.

Pretty sure the last safety that was benched was Harold Dalton. The only white guy that was benched was Devan Moylan and I'm pretty sure he was benched because he got injured.

Bower just doesn't seem to have the athleticism to play linebacker. Should bulk him up and make him a rush end. Of course that will never happen.

was Sleeper the starter because Bernstine was hurt that year or did the staff think "he gives us the best chance to win"...?

Was just gonna say Sleeper was benched. They started Hyde at safety in 2011 and moved him back to corner after that ISU debacle. Bernstine didn't even make the trip to Ames then started the rest of the year. I think Tanner Miller replaced Sleeper as well.

SIAP but why is King not a captain this week? Over the past decade, I can recall very few occasions where the captains changed during the season. Daniels took King's spot this week and perhaps it is nothing but seemed a bit odd.
