Obviously, we need some ground rules as we move forward. Our goal here is to have the best site for Off-Topic and Iowa Hawkeye discussion. But as we grow, we'll need to be clear about what is or is not acceptable for the board.

I should say that nothing below should indicate to anyone that the administrators or moderators of this site want to stifle discussion, or plan to arbitrarily deny access to the site. Perhaps in contrast to other message boards out there, we see the site moderation and rules as a two-way street. In exchange for your attempt to follow some very basic and reasonable rules, we promise not let any personal issues get in the way of the site. In other words, you're free to criticize the board's administrators or moderators as you see fit, as long as the rules are followed.

Ultimately, these rules are only in place to facilitate better discussion, and to create an environment where everyone can contribute and enjoy. That said:

1. No pornography or obscene material. This includes links which lead directly to pornographic or obscene websites/images. No tubgirl, either. RickRolling, while clearly obscene, is also perfectly acceptable.

2. No profanity in thread titles. Otherwise, keep it to a reasonable minimum. Because we don't have a zero tolerance policy on this, we'd ask that you do your best to keep it to a bare minimum. Also, in exchange for allowing the occasional use of colorful language, you agree to allow us to edit any profanity at our discretion.

3. No revealing of personal information about other posters without their consent. For everyone's benefit, we have an absolute zero tolerance policy on this one. Don't do it.

4. No posting of copyrighted information. When quoting a portion of article, please link the source.

5. No illegal activity.

6. No marketing of outside products, services or websites without the prior consent of the Administrators.

7. We do not condone or encourage posting of "premium" information from other websites. This is a gray area, of course, so use you judgment here (but when in doubt, err on the side of caution). If you receive information from generally available and public sources and websites, that's perfectly acceptable. In addition, if "premium" information from other sources or sites becomes public, then it also become acceptable to post and discuss.

8. Try to keep general DB-ery to a minimum. This rule does not apply to administrators.
